Winter Camping: The Log Cabin Experience

For those who missed it, yesterday was the Winter Solstice and thus the turning point to which the days will start to become longer! In honor of this Wintery good news I thought I would write about winter “camping” aka the log cabin experience!
A good family alternative for breaking up the winter months and getting “outside” is a lodge stay that offers a log cabin rental. The log cabin is a great home away from home and often the lodge resorts will offer winter activities that include sled riding, sleigh rides, ice skating and cross country skiing, horseback riding, ice fishing and hunting to name a few. The cabins will also often include kitchens or kitchenettes so that you can take and make your own food.

Much like camping, this is an inexpensive alternative for a winter getaway. Cabin rentals tend to range from $85-$225 per night and can usually sleep up to 8 to 10 people. Also, during the winter season many rentals have good deals on nightly and weekly rates.
Here are some lodge resorts that I have found that seem like good options for cabin rentals:
Beaver Meadows Resort Ranch - Colorado
Aunt Bugs Cabin Rentals - Tennessee
Northern Outdoors - Maine
Big Bear Rentals - California
